Bali Kite Festival 2016 – Discovery Thousand Kite on Bali Sky

Bali Kite Festival 2016 is the annual traditional event to present the variety of kites in Bali. This kite festival is become popular among the Balinese people since it was to be a recreation for them included tourists in Bali Island. The Balinese people conducts this event on July 2016. And also, this event is one of the promotion efforts from local people to promote Bali’s tourism to all tourists. In addition, Bali Kite Festival 2016 is aim to preserve the local cultures and traditions from the global influences.

This kite festival is one of Bali’s major provincial calendar. It is highlighting a unique cultural scenes on par with the preceding the Bali Arts Festival. The festival is slated for various dates, with main events customarily taking place along the eastern coast of Padanggalak, just north of Sanur. Hundreds of competing kite troupes gather from all over the island to pilot their traditional kites, alongside international teams with modern kites in various shapes and sizes.

Type of Bali Kite

The Balinese traditional kites are gigantic. It has evolved into increasingly bombastic proportions over the years. And also, it measure up to four meters in width and 10 meters length. Some other versions such as Janggan type have impressive flowing ribbon tails. This kite often reach 100 meters or more in length. Meanwhile, the Bebean type is the most common design with a traditional outline of a fish. Commonly, this kite is giant size and dominates the skies. The Janggan is somewhat resembles birds with shorter and rounder wings and their long flowing ‘Kedeber’ ribbon tails. It often outshine the kite’s body once airborne.

In each competition, the task of assembling and flying the entailing ‘Kedeber’ is major challenge for the piloting troupe that normally comprises a dozen or so boys and men. Meanwhile, the highest score on best launch, design and longest flight will be determined as a best kite on this festival. In addition, They set Guwang, a unique sound instrument in the form of vibrating bows on the kites. This Guwang will generate a resonating hum that can be heard from far with exotic color.
