Bali Classic Culture Center Present Unique Balinese Life Activities
Bali Classic Culture Center is a centre of mini Balinese life activities which are lively presented to all tourists. They will present the Balinese traditional activities which some of them do not exist in the local modern society such as Menumbuk Padi (paring the paddy), making coconut oil, making an offering (Canang Sari), making Ogoh-Ogoh / Giant Idol, Egg painting as well as demonstration of Tenun Ikat.
Type of Activities
Menumbuk Padi or Paring the Paddy
It is an old Balinese traditional activity where the local people pare the shell of rice by using a big wooden stick. They put the shell of rice in the mortar. And then, it was beaten by wood stick until the shelled rice taken out. This process is looking primitive and now none of Balinese does the same thing since there is a new machine to help them. It is usually the local people in rural doing this activity after harvesting. Despite this activity is a rare activity in a village but you can still find it at Bali Classic Culture Center.
Making Coconut Oil
This process is starting from breaking coconut fruit and then takes out the coconut core. The coconut core is sliced by using traditional tools until the core look like powder. Then this filtered water is boiled until the coconut oil come out. Also, these activities are still running in some villages in Bali. However, you can easily see at this place.
Making Offering/Canang Sari
Canang Sari is a Hindu Offering as well as a media for worshipping to the god. The Balinese Hindu people do this activity in their houses or local community daily. Moreover, you can see this activity every day in Bali especially for big Hindu ceremony. It is made from young coconut leaf and it is nicely embroidered. Then it is combined with colourful tropical flower to complete it. These activities are still running in every Balinese Hindu house in Bali since ever. Moreover, you can take a short course to learn how to make the Balinese offerings.
Making Ogoh-ogoh / Giant Idol
Ogoh-Ogoh is a giant idol presented a day before the silent day in Bali where the most known on Pengrupukan Day. The local people performances procession this Ogoh-Ogoh in the evening and they believe that this Ogoh-Ogoh can dissipate the evil ghost. At Bali Classic Center, the staff will present how to make the Ogoh-Ogoh including the decoration. Also, these activities are still running in entire Bali Island or other regions in Indonesia in particular when the Nyepi Day coming.
Egg painting is a new trend of creativity to develop the brain. It is also a favourite souvenir for tourist that you can find easily in every tourist destination in Bali. It is a new trend of souvenir in Bali where you can find at the common souvenir shops. TThe egg painted here is the empty egg. Normally, they paint the common themes from nature like flower, bird, panorama or Another animal. Here, the staff will present how to paint the egg in any style.
Demonstration of Tenun Ikat
Tenun Ikat is a famous traditional clothes in Bali. The making process is using traditional tools and take several days even a month to complete one piece of clothing. It looks very primitive since all of the tools are using wood and moved by hand or leg. There is no single machine is involving of this Tenun Ikat Making Process. Nowadays, the only parts of Balinese are still using these tools.
