Sultan Palace or also well known as Yogyakarta Palace was built by Pangeran Mangkubumi (Prince Mangkubumi ) in 1755, several months after the signing of the Perjanjian Giyanti (the Agreement Giyanti). The Banyan forest (Hutan Beringin) was chosen as the place to build the palace because the land was strategically located between two rivers that were considered good and protected from possible flooding. Despite, the age of palace reach hundreds of years old and was damaged by the massive earthquake in 1867, Yogyakarta Palace buildings still stand firmly. This palace is also a silent historical witness against the process of colonialism and Indonesian Independence. This is already evident that the palace as the centre of government for the Yogyakarta region since ever.
