GWK Bali Cultural Park – Garuda Wisnu Kencana
Garuda Wisnu Kencana (GWK) Cultural Park is located in Ungasan, Badung Regency, Bali. It’s about a 10-15 minute drive from Bali’s Ngurah Rai International Airport and Kuta Area and also a 15-20 minute drive from Bali Tourism Development Center. Meanwhile, GWK Cultural Park has ± 60 ha area of the cultural park that build in Bali. For this reason, GWK is one of the largest tourism objects in Bali. This Cultural park boasts one of the largest artistic masterpieces and most astonishing works of art ever created in Indonesia, which reflects the strong values of one of Indonesia’s inherited local cultures. GWK Cultural Park doesn’t only present the largest artistic masterpiece art, this cultural park currently developing into a park that covers cultural exhibitions, events and amusement attractions as well as becoming the information and communication forum for local, national, regional and even international cultures.
GWK Cultural Park Story
Garuda Wisnu Kencana cultural park Foundation has initiated in 1992 with the vision of making a landmark of Bali Island. Hence, I Nyoman Nuarta is one of the founders of GWK cultural park. He is the concept maker behind the iconic masterpiece, began to realize his big idea by developing the existing limestone hill through a combined land art approach with a modern Architectural Landscape, alongside a strong idealism to continuously align the harmony between human, environment and God the Almighty. It took 2 years for finding the perfect spot. It was an abandoned limestone mine at a barren hill in the Ungasan village.
In addition, the founders believe this village area carries a lot of tourism potential that it inspired GWK Foundation to commenced rehabilitate it. Therefore, in order to design and realize the enormous sculpture, GWK Foundation has appointed I Nyoman Nuarta as one of Indonesia’s finest modern sculptors who lead sculptor in this mega-structure project. Finally, this cultural park began to go to public in 2000 by exposing and exhibiting some parts of the Garuda Wisnu statue. And also, it run several trials for some of the supporting facilities.

It is the best place to enjoy authentic Balinese cuisine while overlooking the stunning panorama of Bali Island. It is a suitable place to watch beautiful sunset from Garuda Wisnu Kencana Cultural Park. This restaurant situated 300 meters above the sea level, you will be spoiled with the view of both sides of the ocean that flank the Bali Island, with the Jimbaran and Kuta Beach on the west coast, and Tanjung Benoa and Sanur Beach on the east coast.
